We’re going mega budget-friendly this week with a trip to Talamore Golf Resort in Southern Pines, North Carolina. Two rounds and two nights for as low as $345 per person, and there are options to add on from there.

So let’s start with what you’ll find at the 54-hole Talamore. Golf in the North Carolina sandhills is (obviously) loaded, which is perhaps why the resort continues to fly a bit under the radar. But the namesake Rees Jones design stands its ground with a routing cut out of the pines, and speckled with greenside pot bunkers and the native waste areas that are synonymous with North Carolina golf.

The Nicklaus design group’s Legacy course offers a second fully public 18-hole challenge, a hilly jaunt with great par 3s and a demanding, three-hole finishing stretch. There’s also the slopey and water-guarded Mid South Club, an Arnold Palmer design that, although mostly private, does get booked out to the public via stay-and-play.

Your options for booking either are expansive, with many stay-and-play packages directly through Talamore and some great deals through Golfbreaks, as well. On the latter, prices start at $345 per person for two nights and two rounds. But the most fun (and value) might be in adding on a couple of the area’s other standout golf courses without having to find new accommodations. You can tack on another night and a round at Tobacco Road, for instance, with total pricing starting at $549 per person. There’s even a five-night, four-round option that drops Mid Pines into the mix at $795 per head.

It’s a way to experience this special golf area and a few of its top 100 entries without breaking the bank, and with the (very worthwhile in its own right) Talamore as home base.
